DevTeam on their blog has announced a major update to Redsn0w which fixes several issues we were experiencing earlier. Now, you can tethered JailBreak iOS 5.0.1 without pointing iOS 5.0 in Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b. Until Pod2g release the untethered solution which is not always possible, this is the only way for you to use JailBreak. However, this doesn’t mean that you should update to iOS 5.0.1 and use the latest Redsn0w to get your device on a tethered JailBreak. Instead, you must remain on whatever firmware is installed in your iDevice.
Also, it is advised to save SHSH Blobs periodically if possible. Another issue which has been fixed in Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b is related to iBooks. Some users had encountered iBooks issues after the JailBreak. If it happened with you, just re-run the ‘boot tethered’ and everything will be back to normal. You don’t need to JailBreak your device again. Fortunately, iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) owners can now create a custom firmware without the need of SHSH Blobs.
If you rely on a software unlock and preserving your iPhone 4 BaseBand since the first firmware, ultrasn0w compatibility will be provided on Monday. All you need to do is to wait for a while. Some users who have recently bought an iPhone 4 8GB can now fetch SHSH Blobs from the Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b Previously, there were issues regarding it. Currently, there is no way to save SHSH Blobs for iOS 5.x through Cydia. But the stitches could be saved unless Apple fixed it sometime in future through APTickets. This would require users to start the device in Pwned DFU mode.
Similar to TinyCFW which we had described already, you can now stitch 4.x blobs for iPad 2-GSM ipsw. Unlike Notcom’s tool, Redsn0w doesn’t consume lots of your RAM and TSS-server based restore process. In other words, downgrade of iOS 5.x.x to iOS 5.0 is not possible right now. Moreover, you can revert back to iOS 4.x.x through the saved Blobs from recovery loop.
Now, you don’t need to check about the latest version of Redsn0w again and again from the blog. You would be informed automatically through the build in top line. If you are wondering that this would also JailBreak iOS 5.1 Beta 2 then it’s not possible. Due to the fact that Cydia is not fully compatible with the current iOS 5.1 beta for developers, this has to be delayed.
People who have latest iPhone 3GS should not use Redsn0w to update to iPad BaseBand. This message has explicitly been used in Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b to warn users. You can always checkout if your iPhone was made in the later 2011 week 35 through the serial no. The serial no. must start from xx135 for the new iPhone 3GS. Please read all the instructions carefully before moving ahead.
